Discover a range of fabrication techniques that work in collaboration with enameling in this four-day workshop. Explore roller printing, stamping textures, forming, drilling, wire weaving, cold connections, and eutectic soldering, as well as traditional and more experimental techniques for using enamel to accent and build upon the textures in your metal work.
Experience
The workshop begins with an emphasis on fabrication techniques. Once the metal work is completed, demonstrations introduce a variety of enameling materials and techniques. Layer with opaque and transparent enamels, as well as incorporate liquid enamel and P-3 to enhance the surface of the metals and create visual depth in the enamel. Learn how to grind away selective coats of enamel, draw with pencil, use watercolor enamels, and fire alternative materials into the enamel surface; all to develop unique surface design. After enameling, the pieces are cold connected or set into jewelry elements or object style frames.
Basic sawing and filing skills are required, as well as a basic understanding of enameling.
